My wife and I stayed at Rydges Port Macquarie on Christmas night 2016 after spending the day with my family.
The hotel itself is nestled next to the Hastings River and very close (around 200-300m) from Town Beach. From rooms with a view you should get a great view of the river and a reasonable view to the Pacific Ocean.
The rooms are all fairly large and roomy, we have stayed before in one of the suites on the upper floors and they are much much more luxurious with far better views.
Our room was a Deluxe Room with Balcony
Our balcony overlooked the pool area which is situated just above Town Green and next to the Hastings River so all in all there is lots of water to look at.
The room amenities were quite comfortable with a large king size bed, a shower over bathtub and some lounge chairs you could easily relax in the room for a while if you wanted to.
Close by the to the hotel is Port Central shopping center and quite a number of restaurants, cafes and takeaways.
Located downstairs is the Zebu Bar and Grill which offers up a great breakfast with beautiful water views. I’ve never tried but have heard their dinner options are even better and the steaks are to die for.
Port Macquarie on Christmas day is almost like a ghost town and there’s very little in the way of shops or dining options.
The hotel had room service available until 10pm however after a late afternoon nap we missed this and I ended up having to go to the a service station to pickup some junk food.
Except that the over night stay was quite expensive, $400+ for a standard room I would have rated the hotel higher. The early shut off of room service also didn’t help.
My score 6/10
